The Lincolnshire, Illinois based Zizzo Racing team has been racing for the last 26 years. Before joining the ranks of Top Fuel racing they were champions in the Top Alcohol Dragster class. Team owner Tony Zizzo, Sr. started racing his "Avenger" Top Alcohol Dragster back in 1980 and went on to become a 4 time UDRA National champion and in 1986 at the US Nationals, he became the first Top Alcohol dragster driver to run a 6.20 at over 220.70 mph.
Driver and son T.J. Zizzo, who was no stranger to speed himself, grew up at the racetrack and received his NHRA license to compete in his family's Top Alcohol Dragster in 1991 making him the world's fastest teenager! Since then, T.J. has won numerous National events as well as the UDRA championship.
In 2002, the Zizzo's sold their Top Alcohol Dragsters and purchased their first Top Fuel Dragster from Tim Wilkerson. With Tim Wilkerson's help, as well as Fred Mandolini and Champion Packaging, T.J. completed the requirements to receive his Top Fuel license in 2003 at Route 66 in Joliet, Illinois where he ran a 4.742 at 310.98 mph to get the job done! That same year, T.J.'s competed in his first and only national event for 2003, held at Route 66 in Joliet, only 1 week after receiving his license!
In 2004, Zizzo Racing attended their first National event at the 35th Annual Mac Tools Gator Nationals in Gainesville, Florida and finished their racing season in September 2004 at Route 66 in Joliet, Zizzo's home track. Zizzo Racing then stayed on in Joliet after the races where Tony Zizzo Sr's tested and acquired his Top Fuel license.
The 2007 racing season will mark the 27th Anniversary of Zizzo Racing.
