Zizzo races again in Martin
"It'll be nice to race again," Zizzo said after taking a rare day off from work to visit the zoo with his kids. "Spending the day with my kids really just clears my mind. I think it takes the tension away so hopefully it will makes us better on race day."
After two months of work at the shop, the team is looking forward to a change. "We're excited to get back out again," Zizzo said. "We've made six runs this season and they have all been consistent. So we're looking forward to battling it out with guys like Terry McMillen, Bruce Litton, Massey, Strasburg and Lagana. There's going to be a lot of good cars there, it'll be a good race."
The US 131 Motorsports Park is a place that holds found memories for both Zizzo and his team. "Mike Kern [crew chief] and Tony Smith [clutch specialist] love this place," Zizzo said. "The facility is great, the fans are wonderful and it's a good track. There's so much history here. My dad raced here in the seventies and eighties and I've raced here in the nineties and now in the new century. US 131 is just a special place."
The Martin, Mich. race also marks a career first for Zizzo when he captured his first Top Fuel win in 2006.
"PEAK, Herculiner and O'Reilly's have given us a great opportunity to go out here to try and win this thing," Zizzo said. "We're going to do our best to bring them home the Iron Man."
